Representative Gregory L. Holloway, Sr. is a dedicated member of St. Peter Church of Christ (Holiness) USA. He and his wife, April Singleton, are the proud parents of two remarkable children, Gregory II and Joshalyn, and have five grandchildren: Christopher, Kyrann, KaMoria, Isys, and Kynlei.
A graduate of Hazlehurst High School, Representative Holloway earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Alcorn State University, achieving consistent recognition on the Dean's List. He furthered his academic pursuits by obtaining a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from Jackson State University. In 2004, he distinguished himself as a Henry Toll Fellow, participating in one of the nation's premier Leadership Development Programs with the Council of State Governments in Lexington, Kentucky.
Before his election to the Mississippi House of Representatives, Representative Holloway dedicated 17.5 impactful years to Jackson State University’s Student Affairs Department, where he held various leadership positions, including Chairman of the Housing Disciplinary Committee, Staff Senator, Program Director, and Head Homecoming Parade Marshal.
In the Mississippi House of Representatives, he serves confidently as the Vice-Chairman of the Universities and Colleges Committee, while also being a prominent member of important committees such as Education K-12, Agriculture, Public Property, Ways and Means, and the Rules Committee for the 2nd Congressional District. By 2024, he established himself as the ranking member of four essential committees: Agriculture, Education K-12, Universities and Colleges, and the Rules Committee. He also holds the position of Secretary for the Education K-12, Public Property, and Rules Committees.
Throughout his legislative career, Representative Holloway has adeptly presented over 150 bills, amendments, and Conference Reports on the House floor, demonstrating extensive leadership experience that spans over two decades. His previous leadership roles include Vice-Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Chairman of Forestry, Vice-Chairman of Public Property, and various Sub-Committee Chairmanships.
His exemplary leadership has been recognized through numerous accolades, including being named among the "Outstanding Young Men of America" in 1985 and receiving various awards that highlight his commitment to civic and professional organizations. He has notably championed community faith-based programs and has received acknowledgment from former Attorney General Mike Moore. His peers recognized him among the top 40 lawmakers in the Henry Toll Fellowship program. He has also been awarded the prestigious Jimmy Thornton Legislator of the Year award, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drum Major award, and a National Award from the American Society of Public Administrators in San Jose, California, just to name a few. Additionally, he is a proud member of the Hinds Community College Hall of Fame in Politics.
Representative Holloway has been fortunate enough to have been the keynote speaker at several graduation ceremonies: Hazlehurst High School, Virginia College, Copiah-Lincoln Community College Electrical Lineman, and Alcorn State University. He received an Honorary Doctorate in Human Letters from Alcorn State University in May 2025.
Representative Holloway has played a pivotal role in securing substantial funding for his district and Alcorn State University, advocating for a scholarship program that has benefited students statewide for 25 years.
His contributions extend to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS COC), the Commission on Colleges, and the Executive Council. Currently, he serves on the Mississippi College Savings Board, is a member of the corporate board for the South Central Mississippi Boys and Girls Clubs, and holds a significant position on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Head Start Association. Representative Holloway is also a distinguished member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., a Past Worshipful Master of J.I. Martin Lodge Number 701 F&AM PHA in Jackson, Mississippi, and a 32nd-degree Master Mason and Shriner.
He has been instrumental in authoring and co-authoring significant legislation within the House of Representatives and throughout the Mississippi Legislature, contributing to the advancement of his constituents and the state as a whole.
